Interislander operates three ships, the Kaitaki, Arahura and Aratere, for you and your vehicle. There are up to 11 sailings a day, so you’ll always have a wide choice of travel times. Once you’re on your Interislander cruise, you can take a stroll on the decks, enjoy a meal, a drink or even catch the latest movie releases. Or you could just choose to relax and take in the breathtaking view.
All Wendekreisen campervans, motorhomes and hire cars may be taken on the Interislander service between the Wellington ferry terminal in the North Island and the ferry from Picton in the South Island. Interislander offers a year round service of up to 5 return sailings per day.
It is strongly recommended that you book in advance for summer crossings as sailings are often fully booked during peak season. The check-in for foot passengers is at least 45 mins prior to sailing. The check in for passengers with campervans, motorhomes, cars and motorbikes is at least 1 hour 15 mins prior to sailing.
The Voucher must be presented at the terminal and will be exchanged for your boarding pass.
Having crossed the Cook Strait, the final stretch of the Wellington Picton journey is through the magnificent Marlborough Sounds. This sheltered stretch of water is spectacularly scenic and has inspired many journalists to name the Interislander as “one of the most scenic ferry rides in the world”. It is this hour long cruise through the Marlborough Sounds that makes the Cook Strait ferry a must-do experience for anyone visiting or living in New Zealand.
